Patrick Bamford: I have proved to myself that I can do it

Striker on season so far.

Patrick Bamford has given his thoughts on how the season has gone so far, both on a personal level and from a team point of view.

The striker has had an impressive first season in the Premier League with Leeds United, leading both the goals and assists charts for the Whites so far.

With his side sitting mid-table in the Premier League and in the fight for a top 10 finish, Bamford shared how hard the team work every day to improve as the season edges towards a conclusion.

He said: “Overall, genuinely, I’ve been happy with it.

“I think that I’m always striving to do better, score more goals, more assists, play better and become a better player, but I think overall the way it’s gone, it’s been pretty good.

“I always believed I belonged playing in the Premier League, but there’s always that part of you that had that shadow of doubt where you’re saying am I actually good enough.

“But, this season, I have proved to myself that I can do it.”

This weekend, Leeds will have another tough test when they face off against Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road.

It is a fixture they lost earlier in the campaign, but having impressed lately in clashes with the top teams, confidence is high going into this one.

“I think that we kind of learned how to play our way through the big games a bit better,” Bamford explained.

“The Spurs game was a bit strange. We had a couple of chances and if we get one of them at 1-0 or 0-0 it’s a different game, so it’s just sometimes the way football goes.

"They were ruthless and showed their Premier League nous and it ended up being 3-0 comfortably, but we’ve learnt with each game really as the season has gone on.

“You’ve seen - not so much with the Brighton where we let ourselves down - but with the ones before that certainly, we were very good.”
