Marcelo Bielsa: Five points ahead of Brighton

Marcelo Bielsa: Five points ahead of Brighton

Quotes from the pre-match press conference.

On carrying on the current unbeaten run…

“To predict results is impossible. We’re never going to do anything more than give 100% for the next game. In every game there is arguments that need to be taken into consideration. The hypothesis that you open, we will consider them if they present themselves in the analysis of the next game. With regards to this weekend’s game the reality is the same that we’ve been carrying all season.”

On the quality of Brighton…

“The result sometimes can coincide with the performances and other times they don’t. Brighton is a team that is unfairly in the bottom part of the table. All the parameters that you can consider to evaluate a team, how they attack, how they defend and which places on the pitch they spend more time, the possession, the losses of the ball or can they keep possession, the offensive intensity or the values in which you can analyse, they are all positioned in a higher place than they currently occupy.”

On the social media boycott…

“What has the ability to put on show things in a social sense that are usually not looked into so profoundly if they were being demanded from somewhere else. Normally, football demands things that usually happens in society. They show this in a bigger stage and surely in a bigger way than those who actually suffer from these type of things. It’s very important to use the power of the game to see the repercussions, to put on show these things that are happening in society so we can see them more extensively."

On a reunion with Yves Bissouma from time together at Lille…

“He was a great player and he’s confirmed it. It’s not the same to have potential and to show it, when I had the opportunity to work with him he was a player who had a lot of resources and here he has shown them completely. Not because I say it, but because he’s gained recognition from the Premier League due to the resources that he has.”

On defensive improvement…

"We’ve always tried to play in the same way. The increase in the defensive efficiency is a collective thing. If part of our team doesn’t press the first pass of the opponent, it’s a lot more difficult to recover the ball, and if the opposite happens it is a lot easier. The defensive game of the team depends on the whole team, this is very true. Even if those who recover the ball are the ones who shine and it’s not taken into account as much what the other players do to help this recovery of the ball.”
