Leeds United and Manchester United played out a goalless draw at Elland Road, moving the Whites into ninth position in the Premier League table.

Mason Greenwood and Harry Maguire both had early chances, from Bruno Fernandes free-kicks. The midfielder whipped two balls into dangerous areas, which saw the visiting players get on the end of the chances but didn’t really trouble the Leeds United goal.

Leeds started to grow into the match was the half went on and were coming forward more. A couple of set-pieces didn’t bring any major chances, but the build up play had caused problems in the Manchester United defence.

The first real sight on goal came from Stuart Dallas. When Kalvin Phillips had charged down a clearance, he played it to Dallas, who in turn saw his low effort well saved by Dean Henderson.

In what had become a stop start match with small fouls and set-plays throughout, both Luke Ayling and Tyler Roberts had picked up bookings for fouls on visiting players.

Meslier was called upon just before the half-time whistle and produced a stunning one handed, diving save to deny Marcus Rashford’s 25-yard free-kick from finding the top corner.

HALF TIME: Leeds United 0-0 Manchester United

No changes were made during the interval and both teams began the second half looking for a breakthrough. The first real chance fell the way of Manchester United, with Fernandes once again involved, firing his low effort wide of the post.

Just over the hour mark, a pinpoint cross-field pass from Kalvin Phillips saw Helder Costa control and run at goal. The winger struck left-footed and the ball landed on the roof of the net, after a deflection from Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Costa and Jack Harrison were replaced with 25 minutes or so remaining in the match, with Ian Poveda and Mateusz Klich entering the play. Klich was immediately involved, latching onto Bamford’s ball and having his left-footed effort saved.

Seconds later - after Klich had already tested the palms of Henderson - Luke Ayling tried his luck from range and forced the visiting ‘keeper to make another stop.

Looking to make the breakthrough as the match edged closer towards its conclusion, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek.

However, no changes from either side managed to break the deadlock and despite the best efforts of both teams, the match ended goalless.
