Diego Llorente: The team did a great effort to get the win

Defender on late win against Manchester City.

Diego Llorente chatted with LUTV after putting in a solid display away at top of the table, Manchester City.

The Spanish international battled throughout and managed to keep the world-class hosts at bay for large periods, after seeing his central defensive partner sent off in the first half.

Stuart Dallas - who had scored in the first half - netted the injury time winner, breaking up the pitch to finish well under the legs of Ederson in the City net.

“I was very nervous at the end,” Llorente explained.

“The team did a great effort to get the win. We know that with the red card of Liam Cooper, it would be difficult.

“I cannot believe it happened! All the team was very tired, but Stu [Stuart Dallas], I have no idea where he had the energy, but he got the goal and I am very happy for him and for all the team.

“The team in the second half had a great attitude and did a great job and for the whole team, we got the victory.”

After going down to 10 men just after going ahead, the Whites had the entire second half to face the table-topping hosts. Llorente was asked what the game-plan was as they went back out following the break.

He said: “The plan was not to suffer a lot, try to recover the ball in their half but that we knew that was going to be very difficult.

“It’s very difficult, their team is very good, they have players with some movements that are very quick and fast, so we tried to stop them.

“I think we did that, but the most important thing was the victory, it was a good three points for us.”

Now a regular starter for the Whites, Llorente feels his injury concerns are behind him after a tough start to his Leeds United career.

“A long time ago for me was very hard, at the beginning for the season,” he stated.

“With all the help in the training ground and all the help from the staff, I think I can stay fit now which is the most important.”
