Stuart Dallas: I just took one touch then closed my eyes and hit it!

Midfielder scores a stunning late winner against Man City.

A delighted Stuart Dallas gave his thoughts to the media, after putting in a hard-working performance, full of quality and determination to see his side beat top of the table Man City.

Dallas’ first half strike put his side ahead, but the Whites had to play the entire second half with 10 men following Liam Cooper’s dismissal just before the break.

“It’s obviously a great result for us, that was tough out there today, it’s hard enough against this team, or any team with 11, never mind against Man City with 10,” Dallas explained after the match.

"It was difficult, we had to dig in, I thought we defended very well and limited them to very few chances, long range shots and a lot of possession.

“We knew it was going to be difficult, but we just knew that if we could have a bit more composure on the ball, we could maybe get one chance.”

That one chance did come. After Ferran Torres had equalised for the hosts, the winning attitude and mentality from Marcelo Bielsa’s side shone through, as Dallas found the net in stoppage time to win the three points.

He said: “When Raphinha goes through at the end, you’re hoping that’s the one, but I am able to get on the end of a through ball from Alioski and at that point it is just about digging in.

“We worked hard all game and I just saw it opening up, thankfully it went in. Against these teams you don’t get too many chances, so when you go through you’ve got to be clinical.

“Thankfully, when I went through, I think I just took one touch then closed my eyes and hit it!

“We dug in, we showed a different side to us today, that we’re able to defend when we need to and that’s been criticised throughout the season, but today we stood up.

“You should never give up, no matter what team you play with. Down to 10 men and they equalised, everyone is probably thinking we would cave in, but we found something.

“It’s about how much you really want it, and giving that extra bit when it is needed.”
