Marcelo Bielsa: Two games is not enough to observe major changes

Head coach ahead of Saturday’s Yorkshire derby.

Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media, prior to seeing his side take on Sheffield United at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites return to action following the international break and after defeating Fulham last time out.

Bielsa began by giving an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of the match.

He said: “The situation with Klich is in the process of being solved.

“There’s a protocol that needs to be completed so we will see what the consequences of that is.

“The rest of the players haven’t arrived back from International duty and it’s not convenient to anticipate whether they are ok or not fitness, without having evaluated them.

“The group is healthy and both these players [Rodrigo and Pablo Hernandez] are healthy too, but there is always a difference between ideal fitness on the amount of time they have been out.”

Former Leeds head coach Paul Heckingbottom will be returning to Elland Road on Saturday. Following the departure of Chris Wilder, Heckingbottom has been placed in charge of the Blades until the end of the season and has taken control of two matches so far.

“Two games is not enough to observe major changes,” Bielsa explained.

“It’s very difficult that a coach can generate big changes in such a short space of time but clearly the game against Chelsea was a game of a very good level.

“The people who remain at the club and worked under him, they have a very good concept of the work he had done here, I’ve only heard praise given in the time that he was here.

“After the time it takes for players to mature and to be able to get the best of their abilities, they happen in different moments.

“What I value a lot is that a great portion of the players who are the base of the team were here when he was around.”
