Raphinha: I’m really happy being part of this institution

Winger speaks about time at the club so far.

Leeds United winger Raphinha spoke exclusively to LUTV about life at Elland Road and Thorp Arch.

The Brazilian has made a flying start to his Leeds career, becoming an instant fans favourite, with five goals and five assists in his first 21 Premier League matches for the Whites.

His fabulous performances have seen him nominated for the February Premier League Player of the Month Award and Raphinha admitted he is loving his time in West Yorkshire so far.

“I'm really happy to be here in Leeds being part of this institution, it's a real pleasure,” said Raphinha.

“I'm really enjoying the city, despite not being able to see or discover that much of it.

“I've really been made welcome here, I've been embraced by all the players, the coaching staff, everybody here at the club and the fans as well.

“All I can say to my teammates, is just really thank them for the affection they've shown me.

“They've helped me adapt, develop and if I'm playing my best football now, it's thanks to them.

“The way I have been embraced and the way I was treated on arrival here means that I'm really happy now.

“Today I'm really well settled in the city and the club I thank everybody for their affection that’s contributed to this.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Raphinha is yet to play in front of a full Elland Road and he spoke about that prospect in the months ahead.

He said: “I'll be a lot happier when we're able to see all the fans in the stadium.

“To tell you the truth, I think I'm more excited than the fans about getting together.

“As I've said previously, before coming to the club, I really looked at the history and the affection I've received from the fans over social media has been great.

“I'm really looking forward to actually feeling that affection in person with a full stadium from the fans, I really can't wait to hope it can happen as soon as possible.”
