Marcelo Bielsa: We have managed the week in a combined manner

Head coach on West Ham clash.

Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media ahead of Monday night’s trip to face West Ham United.

The Hammers won the reverse fixture at Elland Road in December and are a team flying high at the top end of the table, fighting for European spots.

The Leeds United head coach began by giving a fitness update on his side and whether any players out with injury could return for Monday’s game.

“It depends how they evolve in the following days,” Bielsa explained.

“We have managed the week in a combined manner between rest and training. The quality of the training improves when you have time to recover throughout the week.

“Some players who are coming back from injuries will be playing in the U23s game tomorrow.

“After six months without playing, Gaetano Berardi played 45 minutes [in the recent U23s match] and tomorrow [against Wolves U23s] he will play another 45 minutes.”

On the challenge facing his side at the London Stadium on Monday evening, Marcelo gave his assessment of the West Ham side that Leeds will be facing.

He said: “They’ve been able to maintain a stable partnership in midfield with two players who are very important.

“For each of the attacking positions they have two players, especially with the two wingers and offensive midfielder.

“The four full-backs that they possess are important players and they’ve resolved the absence of Masuaku.

“The centre-backs, not only have they been strong at the back but they have contributed goals in attack.

"I think the manager has been able to obtain some very good minutes of football with that team.”
