Leeds United dedicate win to Granny Val

Special tribute from Marcelo Bielsa and first team.

The Leeds United first-team squad paid a special tribute to Kalvin Phillips' late grandmother during the 3-0 win over Southampton as a mark of love and respect for the incredible person she was.

There has been an outpouring of support for Kalvin Phillips and his family over the last week, with the Leeds United family coming together to send their love and best wishes, and showing their admiration for the fantastic character Granny Val was.

Stuart Dallas scored during the second half of Tuesday evening’s match and headed straight for the dugout after his celebrations to display a Leeds United shirt that read ‘Granny Val’ with the full team paying their respects together after the game.

Marcelo Bielsa paid his own tribute to Granny Val during his post-match interviews, he said: “For us, Phillips is a player we love a lot. He’s an emblem of Leeds United.

“After we got promoted, the figure of Kalvin’s grandmother became known to the public and we started to all care about her.

“Kalvin had many motives of why he loved her so much and she was a very charismatic and very attractive person to those who didn’t know her.

“We regret deeply that she is no longer with us and of course, the loss that it means to Kalvin and for all his family.”
