Marcelo Bielsa: Five points ahead of Wolves clash

Quotes from the pre-match press conference.

Following Marcelo Bielsa's press conference ahead of Friday's Premier League game with Wolverhampton Wanderers, we look at five key points made by the Leeds United head coach...

On Tyler Roberts...

"Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo have things in common. They are strikers who can play as a lone striker or behind the striker. In the game against Arsenal, Tyler had a significant weight in the game, our offensive game improved a lot in the second half and he had a lot to do with that improvement. He’s in conditions to leave his mark when participates."

On whether Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo could return next week…

"I couldn’t give you a certain answer. If I tell you no they won’t be able to play, one of them could perhaps make it for one game. If I tell you yes, I can’t tell you this with certainty. Sometimes a response that seems like it is a formality is the only way I can answer because the subject is how they evolve."

On Illan Meslier…

"There’s no goalkeeper that doesn’t make any mistakes. Goalkeepers consolidate themselves when they get over mistakes they have made. It’s normal that the critics would forget about what you’ve done in the past and fix themselves on the present. A better answer than mine would be one that the Liverpool manager gave over the same subject."

On Joe Gelhardt’s recent involvement…

"He’s a player that always creates danger in a game. He’s a player who is more linked with the finalising of chances rather than the creation of them. He has resources to beat an opponent and he has a final shot and finish that is very good."

On monitoring players out on loan…

"We watch every game that they play. It’s very important that they can compete as we hope they will be able to shine and show the qualities that they have, and fundamentally that they get to play with continuity. They have to show that they shine when they participate, that’s the objective. We follow them all very closely, we hope they will progress and come back."
