Liam Cooper: We Just Didn\'t Take Our Chances

Leeds United captain speaks to the media

Following Wednesday night's narrow 2-1 defeat to Everton, Leeds United captain Liam Cooper spoke to the media.

Battling to the end with an impressive second half display, The Whites couldn't find the equaliser against a Toffees side who occupy 6th place in the Premier League.

Talking after the game to BT Sport, Cooper expressed the team's disappointment in not getting more, whilst reflecting on the positives of the game.

Liam, you seemed to throw everything at it but just couldn't find the equaliser?

Yeah, the boys are disappointed in there. I thought we'd done enough in the second half definitely to draw the game. We just didn't take our chances when they came and we gave the ball away sloppily in the first half against a team who are set up to counter. You make it hard for yourself if you do go behind. We did that, we've just got to dust ourselves down and we have to go again.

I just said to the lads, if we're gonna lose, that's the way to do it, throwing everything at it and giving everything you've got. The boys definitely did that tonight.

What was the message that was given to you at half time? Because there was a bit of a difference.

Just stop making mistakes. In the building up, we made way too many. We were regaining possession and then giving it straight back. And against a team like Everton with quality players, you're going to come unstuck.

They hit us on the counter attack, scored a couple goals and it was a bit of a mountain to climb, but we came out in the second half, got a hold of the game and dominated it. Maybe we were unlucky not to get something from the game.

Just the three home wins so far this season. Is it just the consistency at home that you need to find that will kick you on up the table?

Yeah, definitely. We're missing our fans. We know we can't have them in the stadium, but we're missing them a lot. This place is completely different when it's full to the rafters, but yeah we've got to get a lot more consistent at home.

After a game like this, how much are you all now chomping at the bit to get back out there and play again?

Yeah, the games come thick and fast now, and there's always the next game to put that right. We usually bounce back from defeats during the season, so hopefully we can do that in the next game.
