Leeds United had the first chance of the match inside four minutes, Jack Harrison sent Mateusz Klich forwards and he teed up Ezgjan Alioski to strike in the Spurs box, but he struck narrowly wide into the side netting.

The Whites continued to press in the early stages, a Harrison cross was just beyond the reach of Raphinha, before Alioski sent Harrison into the box and he teed up Klich, who was unable to find the target under pressure.

Klich then sent Patrick Bamford forwards and he played a nice one-two with Rodrigo, before striking on goal, but he couldn’t get enough power behind his effort to really test Hugo Lloris.

Spurs threatened for the first time in the 17^th minute.  Following a free-kick, Heung-Min Son worked his way into the Leeds box, before laying the ball off for Harry Kane to strike, but he could only fire over.

Soon after, Spurs stole possession in the Leeds half and Steven Bergwijn fired wide from 25 yards, before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg forced Illan Meslier into action with a strike following another set-piece.

Leeds created another good opportunity through a Raphinha cross, but Bamford could only direct his header over the crossbar.

The hosts took the lead in the 29^th minute from the penalty spot.  Following a VAR check, Alioski was adjudged to have brought down Bergwijn in the box and Harry Kane made no mistake.

Kane fired just wide for the hosts two minutes later as Spurs tried to extend their lead, whilst at the other end, Rodrigo forced Lloris into action.

Ben Davies teed up Bergwijn to strike in the Leeds box, but he was unable to keep his effort down when well placed, whilst Bamford saw a strike blocked following a dangerous low ball by Alioski, as both sides continued to create chances.

Harrison was inches away from getting Leeds level, four minutes before the break.  He was teed up by Klich to strike from 20 yards and was so close to finding the top corner.

However, just moments later, Tottenham doubled the lead, when a fine cross by Kane was turned home by Son.

HALF TIME: Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Leeds United

Spurs added to their lead five minutes into the second half.  Following a quick free-kick, Tanguy Ndombele broke into the box and forced Meslier into a really good stop.  However, there was nothing he could do to prevent a Toby Alderweireld header at the resulting corner from crossing the line.

Kane on the search of his second of the afternoon fired into the side netting from a narrow angle, as the hosts remained on top, during the opening stages of the second period.

Meslier was called into action once again to deny Bergwijn with a fine stop, before Harry Winks fired over from long range.

Kane was next to try his luck, but he was unable to get the better of Meslier from a narrow angle, before the Spurs striker Kane then tried to lob the Leeds stopper from range, but his strike went just over.

Leeds introduced Pablo Hernandez from the bench and he had a positive impact, twice going close, seeing two efforts deflect just wide from the edge of the box.

Raphinha then did well to work room for a shot after linking up with Stuart Dallas, but Lloris made a good save to deny him.

The Whites continued to try and get on the scoresheet, Lloris was again called into action to deny a Bamford header, following Raphinha’s cross.

In the closing stages of the game, Spurs defender Matt Doherty was shown a second yellow card after a late foul on Hernandez, signalling his dismissal from the pitch.

The hosts managed to hold onto their clean sheet during the last few minutes of the game, with Leeds United unable to make their second-half pressure count.
