Marcelo Bielsa: They’re a very difficult team to face.

Head coach on Tottenham fixture.

Marcelo Bielsa has spoken with the media, ahead of the trip to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Having ended 2020 on a high, Leeds will begin 2021 at the newly built Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Whites head coach discussed the upcoming match and the tactical battle he could face against Jose Mourinho’s side.

“The battles are every time less tactical, as the games have two types of basic structures,” Bielsa explained.

“Either you wait for the opponent in your own half, or you go for them in their own half.

“Or you go from one box to the other, accumulating passes, or you go long and that’s how you attack.

“As a result there are less tactical mysteries than we think.

“With respect to Tottenham and the way they’re playing, they’re a very difficult team to face.

“In every position they have solid, good players and they have options.

“They have strikers who can unbalance and they are very clear in how they want to play.

“It’s a team that you can clearly see the influence of the manager and they are very competitive.”

Leeds have one of the best attacking records in the division, have amassed a total of 30 goals so far from their 16 matches. Marcelo spoke of the reasoning behind this.

He said: “Our team gives a great importance to the offensive game.

“The club has made important investments to improve our offensive game, by incorporating Raphinha and Rodrigo.

“We’ve managed to keep Helder Costa and Jack Harrison, also Patrick Bamford is scoring regularly.

“The club has also invested in the defensive part, which is also needed to attack.

“They’re important investments which allow the team to grow.”
