Leeds United suffered the biggest defeat of the season against arch-rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Leeds got off to the worst possible start, when Bruno Fernandes laid the ball off to Scott McTominay and he found the bottom right corner from 25 yards.

It took the Red Devils less than a minute to double the advantage, with Anthony Martial playing McTominay into the Leeds box and he converted his second of the afternoon.

In the eighth minute Leeds had a great chance to get a foothold back into the game when Rodrigo played Patrick Bamford through on goal, but he dragged his shot wide.

Another Leeds chance came 10 minutes later when Rodrigo’s shot deflected into the path of Bamford and his effort found the net, however it was ruled out for offside.

Moments after Bamford’s chance, Manchester United added a third, with Martial seeing a shot blocked and Fernandes then on hand to smash home from close range.

Mateusz Klich created a chance with a good cross from the right flank, which was met by Bamford, but he couldn’t keep his header down.

Ezgjan Alioski saw a shot well blocked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka as Leeds continued to search for an elusive goal, whilst Raphinha was superbly denied by David de Gea following a Leeds corner.

However, things went from bad to worse in the 37th minute for the Whites, when Victor Lindelof added a fourth from a Martial corner.

Liam Cooper pulled a goal back for Leeds, heading home a Raphinha corner with three minutes of the first half remaining, whilst in the closing stages, Rashford saw a strike deflect just wide and another shot was well saved by Illan Meslier as the hosts went in leading by three goals at the break.

HALF TIME: Manchester United 4 – 1 Leeds United

Marcelo introduced Pascal Struijk and Jamie Shackleton at the break, but the Whites could’ve been further behind at the start of the second half.  After losing possession cheaply, Fernandes played in Martial, but he curled his strike just wide.

The hosts had David de Gea to thank for keeping their three goal advantage when Rodrigo’s cross was met by a fierce Raphinha volley, but the Spaniard was on hand to make the save, which then hit the post as Bamford looked to pounce from the follow up.

Daniel James added Manchester United’s fifth in the 66th minute, after turning into the Leeds box following McTominay’s pass and smashed an effort through Meslier’s grasp.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty when Martial was brought down and Fernandes converted from the spot.

Stuart Dallas netted Leeds’ second of the afternoon in the 73rd minute, finding the top corner with a fine strike.

Alioski put in a low cross which fell into the path of Harrison nine minutes later, but he saw his strike superbly blocked.

Meslier was then called into action, making a double save to deny substitute Edinson Cavani and James, before stopping a Harry Maguire header and Fred strike.

Harrison struck wide when well-placed late on for the Whites, whilst Meslier saved from Cavani, on a miserable afternoon for the Whites.
