Kalvin Phillips: It was a special moment for Raphinha

Midfielder on Everton win.

Kalvin Phillips gave his thoughts after picking up the man of the match award against Everton.

The midfielder was instrumental in the Whites’ one-nil victory, following Raphina’s stunning winner 10 minutes from time at Goodison Park.

The win was Leeds’ fourth of the season in the Premier League, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side now moving up to 11th place and Phillips gave his reaction to the latest victory and the match winner.

"We started well, got on the front foot and we were creating chances,” explained Phillips.

“We knew eventually it would come and we just had to defend well, I felt we did that tonight.

“It’s a special moment for Raphinha, I’ve been telling him he is going to score a goal whenever he gets a chance.

“He’s come close the last few weeks but finally got one today, he’s very good, he’s got everything.

“To come into the side shortly after being signed, he’s been excellent and I think that is down to us integrating him well into the squad and him working hard.”

Kalvin was given the man of the match award by Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Carragher.

Whilst putting in yet another superb performance, England manager Gareth Southgate was also watching from the stands on Merseyside.

“We’re just happy to come out on the pitch and give it our all for 90 minutes, or 90 plus, and of course we’re happy to take away the three points.

“I’m pleased when we win, but it’s all about the team, if the team don’t play well, I don’t play well.

“It comes down to individual efforts but collectively as a team, the manager is on about that every week.

“We don’t have one really good individual player, we’re a team and we work hard as a team, I am not taking any credit.

“That’s nice [Southgate was watching], I put in a good performance and need to keep working hard, keep playing like I have tonight and keep progressing.”
