Kalvin Phillips was back in the Leeds United starting XI after missing the previous three games through the shoulder injury he picked up against Wolves, at Elland Road.

The England international put in a dominant display at the heart of the pitch and was a constant driving force as his side controlled large parts of Sunday’s match against Arsenal.

Speaking after the game Kalvin said: “It was good, we’re very happy to keep a clean sheet as Arsenal were always going to cause us problems.

“I felt we dealt with them pretty well, the sending off changed the game in our favour, we’re happy to take the point but it should have been three.

“The clean sheet after a tough few games is massive for us, so if we can keep that up in the next few games, which will be tough, we’ll be happy to keep clean sheets in those games too.”

Arsenal went down to 10 men early in the second half and the Whites continued to press forward in search of a winner, striking the woodwork on multiple occasions.

Phillips explained that there was some frustration, but continues to look at the bigger picture.

He said: “There’s always frustration when you come away with one point when you should have had three.

“I think the main thing is that we’re creating chances, we’re always going to do that.

“I think even before the sending off we were on top, we created a few chances and we are happy to bring big teams here and perform well.

“If we can do that for the remainder of the season, we’ll be very happy.”

Kalvin was also quick to praise goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who made a big save towards the end of the game to keep the clean sheet, gaining plaudits from his teammates. 

“I think he deserves it.

“The last few weeks have been hard on him, there have been a lot of goals flying in at our end but he has stayed strong and confident.

“You could tell in the save at the end from Bukayo Saka, he does that in training and he is still learning and getting better.

“We thanked him after in the changing room.”
