Leeds United suffered back-to-back Premier League defeats, with Crystal Palace running out 4-1 winners at Selhurst Park

The home side had the first chance of the game in the opening minute, with Andros Townsend forcing Illan Meslier into action.

The hosts again threatened early into the match, when Eberechi Eze found Patrick van Aanholt in the Leeds box, but he was denied by another good Meslier save, with his shot heading into the bottom corner.

Liam Cooper headed over Leeds’ first chance from a Mateusz Klich corner, before the hosts took the lead.  Eze delivered a corner from the left flank and Scott Dann leapt highest to head home via the crossbar.

The Whites thought they had drawn level through Patrick Bamford, only to see the goal ruled out by VAR.  After Klich had played a lovely through ball, converted superbly by Bamford, the Leeds United forward was adjudged to have been controversially offside.

The Eagles doubled their lead in the 22^nd minute.  Winning a free kick on the edge of the Leeds box, Eze stepped up and fired an unstoppable strike beyond Meslier, into the top corner.

Leeds pulled a goal back into the game through Bamford five minutes later.  This time VAR could not deny the Leeds striker, who fired home a lovely volley, following Luke Ayling’s ball forward and Klich’s cushion down.

Roy Hodgson’s side restored their two goal advantage before the break, though, with van Aanholt’s low cross from the left flank deflecting off Helder Costa and finding its way into the Leeds net.

Half time: Crystal Palace 3-1 Leeds United

Leeds came close to a second goal from a Jack Harrison corner. He delivered from the left, with Pascal Struijk meeting the cross, but he saw his header go just a few yards off target.

After a long period without chances, the game burst into life. First Ezgjan Alioski tried a low drive from range, seeing his effort deflect just wide.

Following on from the play at the resulting corner, Harrison saw a strike well saved by Vicente Guaita, after a neat header by Struijk to set him up.

At the other end Palace threatened when Jordan Ayew sent Wilfried Zaha into the Leeds box, but he scuffed his strike, enabling Meslier to make the save.

Palace added a fourth goal with 20 minutes remaining. This time Zaha provided for Ayew and the Ghana international hammered home beyond Meslier.

The Eagles nearly went further ahead through van Aanholt, when he broke into the Leeds box from the left flank, but he couldn’t get the better of the Leeds goalkeeper.

Raphinha saw a free kick go just wide in the closing stages, whilst van Aanholt fired wide following a good knockdown by substitute Christian Benteke, as the Whites left London pointless.
