Liam Cooper: I’ll never forget this game

Captain on Fulham win.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper spoke to the media following Saturday’s first win of the season.

Cooper skippered the side to victory in the club’s first game back in the top-flight at Elland Road since 2004, as Fulham were beaten 4-3.

He spoke of his pride at getting to lead the team out on home soil in a Premier League fixture.

“I’ll never forget this game,” said Cooper.

“It’s unbelievable what the boys have achieved for the club.

“We’re devastated our fans can’t be here to share it with us, but this is what everyone dreams of.

“I’m delighted to captain this amazing club and long may it continue.”

Cooper also gave his view on the match, insisting improvements need to be made going forwards despite the win.

He said: “The mentality always changes, when you are 4-1 up and flying and then concede two goals, it can get a bit tetchy, but I thought the lads stuck in at the end and we defended well when we had to.

“The goals were sloppy to concede on our behalf and we will go back to the training ground next week, analyse them and put things right.”
