Pablo Hernandez scored an 89th minute winner for Leeds United against his former club Swansea City, sparking jubilant celebrations at the Liberty Stadium, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side continue to march towards the Premier League.

Swansea had the first chance of the game in the ninth minute, with Rhian Brewster forcing Illan Meslier into a good save with a snap shot.

Andre Ayew played Conor Gallagher forward a minute later, but he saw his strike deflect wide for a corner.

Matt Grimes saw a shot from a narrow angle deflect wide, before Jay Fulton shot over from 25 yards.

Leeds’ first opportunity came form a corner, when Luke Ayling’s near post flick went over, before Stuart Dallas saw a deflected effort from distance well saved by Freddie Woodman.

The Whites had a good opportunity to take the lead in the 32nd minute.  Patrick Bamford latched onto a through ball and it bounced kindly for him and he struck at goal under pressure from the Swansea defence, but he couldn’t get the better of Woodman, who made a good save.

With five minutes of the first half remaining, Helder Costa drove forwards down the right wing, before striking an attempt at goal from an acute angle, but Woodman made the stop.

Half time: Swansea City 0-1 Leeds United

Bielsa made two changes for Leeds at the break, introducing Ezgjan Alioksi and Hernandez for Stuart Dallas and Tyler Roberts.

Swansea almost took the lead six minutes into the second period with Gallagher striking from just inside the Leeds box, forcing Meslier into an excellent save.

Leeds had another fine chance to go ahead in the 64th minute.  Hernandez found Jack Harrison in the Swansea box with a fine pass and he crossed for Bamford, but the Leeds striker saw his header from close range denied by Woodman.

Four minutes later Luke Ayling tried his luck from distance, but he was unable to keep his effort down.

Hernandez then fed Harrison who broke into the Swansea box, but he could only fire over the bar.

With five minutes to go, following some lovely build up play, Hernandez struck just inches too high.

With the game looking set for a draw, a moment of magic happened.  Ayling reached the byline and cut the ball back, with Hernandez taking a touch to control before firing low.  The ball somehow the squeezed between Swansea stopper Woodman and the post, hitting the upright, before rolling over the line, sparking wild scenes.

The Whites then saw out eight minutes of added time, claiming all three points, to move further ahead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
