Chairman speaks about Jack Charlton.

Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani has expressed his sadness, following the news football icon Jack Charlton passed away last night, following a long battle with illness at the age of 85.

Charlton helped Leeds to unprecedented success over a 23-year period, after joining the club back in 1950, going on to become one of the greatest players to have played the game.

Along with his success at Elland Road, Charlton also helped England win the 1966 World Cup, playing in every match in the tournament.

Chairman Radrizzani said: “Today is a very sad day for me and the Leeds United family as we mourn the loss of club legend Jack Charlton.

“Over 23 years, he made a record 773 appearances for us and will always be remembered as a true club hero by all.

“My thoughts are with Jack’s family and friends at this sad time.

“Rest in peace Jack.”
