Leeds United came from behind to pick up a point against Luton Town at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford had the first chance of the game, he was played into the area, but couldn’t get the better of Simon Sluga from a narrow angle, who made a good save.

Leeds next went close from a counter-attack, with Helder Costa’s cross just evading the head of Tyler Roberts.

The Whites were dealt a blow in the eighth minute when Liam Cooper picked up an injury and he was replaced by Gaetano Berardi.

Leeds continued to press and Roberts was next to go close when he did well to work room for a shot, before flashing a shot over the bar.

Roberts showed fine skill before delivering a dangerous low ball, which Luton cleared, before Costa fired over from inside the box, following a throw.

Luton’s best chance of the half came in the 19th minute from a corner.  Sonny Bradley met the set-piece with his head and only a superb save from Illan Meslier prevented him from opening the scoring.

Leeds continued to press winning several corners, without really testing Sluga until first half stoppage time, when a set-piece fell to Klich on the edge of the box and he forced the Hatters stopper into a decent save.

Half time: Leeds United 0-0 Luton Town

Luton went ahead five minutes into the second half.  The Hatters caught Leeds on a counter-attack and substitute Harry Cornick raced onto a fine through pass from Ryan Tunnicliffe, before bending a fine strike into the top corner.

Leeds pressed immediately for an equaliser, Bamford struck from the edge of the box seeing his strike deflect wide, before Roberts and Harrison saw efforts well saved by Sluga.

Sluga continued to keep Luton ahead, he denied a fine Phillips free-kick, before denying Costa from close range, with the Portugal international hitting his rebound into the side netting.

Leeds drew level in the 63rd minute.  Substitute Ezgjan Alioski who was a constant threat down the left played a fine low pass to Dallas in the Luton box and he fired home.

Costa then found Alioski at the back post with a neat cross, but the Macedonian was unable to get his header on target from a narrow angle.

Meslier was forced into a rare save when he came out a long way and beat Cornick to the ball as Luton looked to counter, before Alioski put in another lovely cross, from which Bamford fired a first time strike just wide.

With 12 minutes remaining Leeds had another fine chance, Harrison delivered a cross which looked destined for the head of Bamford, but he was unable to make a connection and Harrison headed over following a cross back into the Luton box.

Alioski saw a strike deflect wide and Dallas’ deflected strike was saved well by Sluga as Leeds continued to throw the kitchen sink at Luton.

Dallas then met an Alioski cut back which deflected just wide, Sluga denied Ayling and right at the death, Costa couldn’t find the target following a lovely Alioski cross, as the Whites had to settle for a draw.

The point ensures the Whites will remain at the top of the Championship, going into Saturday’s clash with Blackburn Rovers.
