Luke Ayling: Hopefully we can go out there and show our best

Full-back on Cardiff City.

Leeds United full-back Luke Ayling spoke to leedsunited.com ahead of Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship return.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be back in action for the first time since the league was postponed in March due to Covid-19 and head to Wales to take on Cardiff City.

The Whites were in fine form prior to the lockdown and currently sit at the top of the table with nine games left to play.

Ayling is expecting a tough encounter against a Cardiff side looking to gain a top six spot this season, but is hopeful Leeds can put on a good display.

“It feels like the start of a new season and you always get a few nerves before the first game of a new season, but hopefully we can go out there and show our best," said Ayling.

“It’s a different situation and nobody knows how you are going to come back from it, but we’ve done all of the work we’ve been told to do and we feel like we’re in good shape to come back and play games, so we’ll see how it goes on Sunday.

“There aren’t many harder places to go than Cardiff away in the Championship, they are a big physical team and they are fighting for a Play-Off spot, with only two points in it for them.

“They are going to be fit and ready to go and it makes for a good game of football, with both teams needing to win.

“I’m sure it will be a nice opening game of football and hopefully us boys can come out with a win.”
