Head coach on Boro.
Leeds United head coach Marcleo Bielsa spoke to the media following Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.
The Whites were victorious in the north east, thanks to Mateusz Klich’s strike in first half stoppage time.
Bielsa gave his verdict on the result and was pleased with the character shown by his side to secure the three points.
“The team fought a lot and was very aggressive,” said Bielsa.
“The players made a lot of effort and when it was necessary all of the team defended.
“We attacked well, better in the first half than the second, with more chances in the first one, in general.
“The team protected the result a lot and we played well in the different moments of the match.
“The team didn’t lose their calm and made few fouls and in general, we managed well the different situations in the match,
“Maybe in some moments of the second half Middlesbrough created problems for us, but in general, we had three times as many chances as them.
“The match was very tough, with a lot of fight in the match and Middlesbrough were above their level in previous matches.
“We could resolve well the absence of Kalvin Phillips, we were a compact team and a tough team to play.
“It was a match where if we lost some focus or didn’t keep the intensity and focus in the entire match, then we may have risked the result of the match.”
Bielsa also gave an update on Kalvin Phillips and Jean-Kevin Augustin who missed the game at the Riverside Stadium with injuries.
He said: Kalvin had an evaluation in the morning and he wasn’t 100 per cent to play.
“On Tuesday we thought he would play, but on Wednesday it was impossible.
“Augustin has a muscular problem in his hamstring and won’t be available for Saturday, with Kalvin, I don’t know probably- but I don’t want to make the same mistake of Tuesday by saying he would play on Wednesday.”
