Marcelo Bielsa: It’s clear Fulham are the best team in the Championship

Head coach on Fulham defeat.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media following Saturday’s defeat against Fulham.

The Whites suffered a first defeat in 11 matches, as Fulham ran out 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage in the Sky Bet Championship.

Leeds remain nine points clear of Fulham in third place despite the result and Bielsa gave his verdict on the match.

“We played against one of the more powerful opponents,” said Bielsa.

“We defended well, they scored from one corner and with one penalty.

“They had just one more chance (apart from those), whilst we had seven or eight chances to win the match.

“We defended very well because we play against great attackers.

“Honestly, I don’t want to not give value to what the opponent did, but I didn’t see the opponents attackers unbalance the game.

“We are talking about Ivan Cavaleiro and Aleksandar Mitrovic, they are maybe the most important in the league.

“It’s clear Fulham are the best team in the Championship, but today the things the opponent created, they couldn’t score with.”

Bielsa also spoke about the injury to Pablo Hernandez, who had to be withdrawn in the third minute.

He said: “It’s a muscular problem.

“I think it will be a problem (for Boxing Day).”
