Leeds United made it seven Sky Bet Championship victories in a row, with a hard fought 2-0 win against Hull City at Elland Road.

Hull had the first chance of the match, top goal-scorer Jarrod Bowen tried his luck from distance but couldn’t find the target.

With both side struggling for creativity, Leeds’ first opportunity came in the 21st minute, Helder Costa played a lovely one-two with Pablo Hernandez, but saw his shot well blocked by Leonardo Lopes.

Hull almost took the lead from a Kamil Grosicki corner, with Tom Eaves heading just narrowly wide into the side netting.

At the other end Leeds also went close from a Kalvin Phillips corner, with Gaetano Berardi’s near post flick finding the side netting.

Patrick Bamford glanced a header wide following a good cross by Costa, before the Portugal international fired a volley wide at a corner.

Hernandez then worked his magic to work his way into the Hull area, curling an effort just off target.

Half time: Leeds United 0-0 Hull City

Hull started the second half lively, with Eaves striking a warning to Leeds with a long range attempt not far wide of the mark.

The Tigers then caught Leeds on a counter attack and Grosicki played in Eaves, Stuart Dallas got back to make a challenge and Eaves’ deflected strike was well saved by Kiko Casilla.

Leeds had the ball in the back of the net in the 59th minute, with Costa finishing off a lovely Whites move, but the goal was ruled out by an offside flag in the build up.

Lopes saw a penalty appeal turned away for the visitors, before Leeds took the lead.  Costa managed to get himself into the Hull box and his low cross was turned in by Tigers defender Jordy De Wijs, to the delight of the Elland Road crowd.

Hull almost hit straight back when substitute Josh Bowler found Jackson Irvine on the edge of the Leeds box, but he could only fire over when well placed.

Leeds sealed the victory with eight minutes of regular time remaining.  Hull’s Eaves saw a header at a corner brilliantly cleared off the line by a combination of Casilla and Bamford and following this Leeds broke.  Mateusz Klich charged up the right and his low cross was met by Bamford who saw his effort come back off the post and substitute Ezgjan Alioski was on hand to smash home the rebound from a narrow angle.
