Marcelo Bielsa: We defended very well

Head coach on Middlesbrough win.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media following Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Leeds moved back to the top of the table with a fifth straight win in the Sky Bet Championship with a biggest victory of the season so far.

Bielsa gave his verdict on  the performance and also had sympathy for Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough.

“We defended very well,” said Bielsa.

“There was a moment in the middle of the first half when Middlesbrough created a lot of chances.

“It’s important, we have to say, they missed eight senior players through injury and they lost an impact.

“The players they missed are proper players and if they had all of their players, maybe the match would have been more difficult.

“We recovered the ball fast, but they had two good strikers and those two players didn’t have an impact on the match.

“One part of the competition where you win five matches always is good, but we also know we won two matches against Luton and Reading very late on.

“There are a lot of details we have to analyse, it’s not just winning, you have to analyse how you win every match.

Bielsa also spoke about Helder Costa who netted his first league goal for the club.

“He gave a step forward today.

“He scored and he is developing, but he can show more impact to unbalance the game than he did today.

“Every week though, he is improving.”
