Ahead of Tuesday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Luton Town at Elland Road, we look back at five memorable matches between the two sides.
Saturday, 29 February 1992- Leeds United 2-0 Luton Town
Leeds hosted the Hatters at Elland Road in a crucial period of the season. Leeds needed the three points, with the aim of getting back to the top of the table, following two games without a win. Substitute Eric Cantona broke the deadlock after Gary McAllister broke through the Luton defence to set up the Frenchman. The Whites then doubled the lead after Lee Chapman struck a thunderous volley towards goal following some poor defending.
Saturday, 25 February 2006- Leeds United 2-1 Luton Town
Leeds welcomed Luton as Gary Kelly marked his 500th appearance with three points. Jonathan Douglas opened the scoring for the Whites with a right footed shot, just after the break. Striker Rob Hulse doubled the advantage, giving Leeds a two goal lead with a poachers finish from close range. Luton responded well and pulled one back through Steve Howard but couldn’t grab an equaliser and Kevin Blackwell’s Leeds hung on.
Saturday, 10 March 2007- Leeds United 1-0 Luton Town
The Whites entertained Luton in a crucial fixture in the Championship relegation battle. Leeds dominated proceedings early on with Jonathan Douglas heading onto the bar twice and Robbie Blake also hitting the woodwork. Richard Cresswell struck the winner just after the break to throw Leeds a vital survival lifeline.
Saturday, 1 September 2007- Leeds United 1-0 Luton Town
Dennis Wise’s Leeds United continued a 100 percent start to the season with a scrappy 1-0 win. Tresor Kandol was the match winner as Jermaine Beckford whipped in the ball for the forward. Leeds limited Luton to a few chances although Calvin Andrew had a chance to equalise in the dying stages of the game but his effort flew just wide. The win ensured Leeds reached -3 points, during the infamous -15 points season.
Saturday, 23rd November 2019- Luton Town 1-2 Leeds United
In the last meeting between the two sides, Leeds travelled to Kenilworth Road for a league meeting for the first time in nearly 11 years. After Luton stopper James Shea had kept Leeds at bay in the first half, Leeds got the breakthrough just after the break when Patrick Bamford netted his sixth of the season following a fine run and through ball by Ben White. That lead lasted less than three minutes, though, when James Collins found the net following a cross by former Leeds loan man Izzy Brown. However, Leeds rallied and finally got another breakthrough in the 90th minute, when a combination of Bamford and Hatters defender Matty Pearson, turned in Mateusz Klich's cross. The win saw Leeds climb to second in the Sky Bet Championship.
