Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez spoke exclusively to LUTV after signing a new deal with the club.

The fan favourite and former Spain international penned a two year contract extension on Tuesday, running until the summer of 2022.

Hernandez, who has gone on to play 132 times for the club since joining back in 2016 was thrilled at signing fresh terms.

“It’s a happy day for me and my family today,” said Hernandez.

“I am staying here because I want to stay here and the club want me to stay here, so it is perfect for me.

“Signing this new contract with the club is an honour for me and now I will try to continue with the same work and push to help the club get back to the Premier League.

“This is a big club, not just in England, but around the world and this club deserves to play in the Premier League.

“We have amazing fans and for me to play for this club and for these fans is both an honour and an amazing feeling for me and I am very happy to continue playing here.

“I think the last season was the most complete season for me with 12 goals and 12 assists, but we lost the chance to go to the Premier League and I would change this for the team to be in the Premier League, but I was happy with my personal performance last season.

“We want to improve this year and achieve our target of the Premier League and I think we are going in the right way and I am 100 per cent sure and convinced that this is the year this club will get back to the Premier League.”

Hernandez also spoke about the impact of head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

He said: “It is a great experience for me to work with him.

“He is very positive for me, because with him I have played some of the best football in my career last year.

“With my age, sometimes when you arrive to this age 33, 34, 35, you think you have a lot of experience and you know everything in football, but a manager like Marcelo can improve you and help you to know new things in football and this has happened with me.”
