A goal in either half from Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison secured Leeds United a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road.

QPR had the first chance of the game inside five minutes with Nahki Wells firing in a wicked low cross, which bounced just wide.

Two minutes later, Leeds had a fine chance to open the scoring, when Luke Ayling delivered a delightful cross from the right, but Mateusz Klich could only fire over his volley when well placed.

Kalvin Phillips struck off target for the Whites after an initial free kick had hit the wall, before Ayling headed over another Leeds set piece.

Leeds had another big chance in the 26th minute when Klich played Bamford through on goal with a wonderful pass, but he was unable to take advantage, with Lee Wallace making a last ditch challenge before goalkeeper Liam Kelly saved.

Roberts then sent Jack Harrison into the box with a lovely ball, but Bamford was unable to convert his pass across the face of goal, before the striker headed wide under pressure following a Stuart Dallas cross from the right.

Leeds deservedly took the lead with six minutes of the first half remaining.  Harrison showed good skill in the QPR box before picking out Roberts who struck first time into the bottom left corner, netting his first goal of the campaign.

Liam Cooper headed wide from a Phillips corner, before QPR came close to equalising.  Wells stole possession deep into the Leeds half, with his shot deflecting just wide, with Jordan Hugill just inches away from steering it goal-wards.

On the stroke of half time following a corner, Phullips whipped in a second ball, but Bamford couldn’t get the better of Kelly with a header, with the QPR stopper making a decent save.

Half time: Leeds United 1-0 Queens Park Rangers

Leeds started brightly to the second half, first Costa broke down the right, with his cross to Bamford intercepted, before Roberts broke into the box and his ball across the face of goal was just out of the reach of Bamford at full stretch.

Roberts had a fine opportunity to net his and Leeds’ second go the game, when he was played in at goal, but he could only put the chance over the bar.

Klich was next to go close following a Leeds corner, the ball came out to him from the set piece, but he could only volley wide.

In the 64th minute, Leeds saw a goal ruled out for offside, with Roberts whipping in a cross from the right and Bamford finding the net with a fine diving header, but the celebrations inside Elland Road were cut short.

Captain Cooper was next to try his luck, driving forwards before hitting an effort from 30 yards which went wide.

The visitors then had two opportunities, first Marc Pugh drove forwards before firing wide, before Todd Kane whipped in a lovely cross, but Hugill couldn’t direct his header on target.

Harrison saw a penalty appeal turned down in the 78th minute, but there was no stopping the winger four minutes later as he netted Leeds’ second goal of the game.  He broke into the box before trying to find Klich with a pass, which rebounded right back into his path and he calmly slotted home.

Roberts almost added a third Leeds goal in stoppage time, following a good break from Davis down the left flank, but he couldn’t get the better of Kelly who made a really good stop, with the Whites now four games unbeaten.
