Patrick Bamford: I think everyone could see how hard we worked

Striker on West Bromwich Albion win.

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford spoke to the media following Tuesday’s victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Bamford produced a man of the match performance, leading from the front, to help the Whites come away with a 1-0 victory.

West Brom were unbeaten in the division prior to visiting Elland Road and Bamford was delighted to come away with the win.

“It’s massive, I think everyone could see how hard we worked for it,” said Bamford.

“Everyone put their all in out there, so it is a well deserved three points.

“I think it shows we have backbone, we’ve let games slip in the last couple of matches in the last minute, so it was important for us to show that we’ve learnt from it- to bounce back was crucial.

“West Brom are a very good side, in the first half we did really well and made them look ordinary, but in the second half they really took it to us and showed how good they are.

“It was important for us to get a good result no matter how we did it, we had to grind it out and fight our way to the three points, but it is a great result against a very good team.

“In the second half when they started to take control of it, as a striker you realise that it isn’t going to be the kind of game where you are going to dominate and get lots of chances.

“Then you’ve got to bring the team into it, work for the team by holding the ball up, be physical with the defenders and do what you can to give our defenders a rest.

“It’s a different type of game, but an enjoyable type of game and it makes the three points even more enjoyable.

“Maybe last year, one of the things that I was criticised for a little bit was not being aggressive enough and can I do it up front on my own.

“I knew that I could and I had the strength, I just had to add that aggression into my game a bit and to be honest I think this season my performances have been a lot higher than last year, I know I have probably missed a few chances still, but I need to keep working for the team and if the team keeps winning, that is the main thing.

“We showed the gritty determination to see it off and get the three points, we will rest now and then get straight back on it for the game on Saturday.”
