Marcelo Bielsa: We have never faced a team like this one

Head coach on Barnsley.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media ahead of Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Barnsley.

The Whites head to Oakwell for the first Yorkshire derby of the season, looking to get back to winning ways.

Newly promoted Barnsley have collected five points from their first six matches, but Bielsa is expecting a tough test in South Yorkshire.

“We have never faced a team like this one, it is a different kind of team,” said Bielsa.

“They press high and run a lot, the position they have in the table is not linked with the style of play they have shown.

“This team is built to move the ball in a good way.

“I don’t know the manager, but the team speak for him and the team has shown new things.”

Bielsa also gave an update on injured duo Luke Ayling who have yet to feature for the Whites this season.

“Tyler Roberts is a possibility (for Sunday),” Bielsa said.

“Luke Ayling is healthy, next Monday and next Friday he will play for the Under-23s to start to get fitness.”

He also spoke about Kalvin Phillips who was rewarded with a new five year deal earlier in the week.

Bielsa stated: “It is very good for him, he deserves it.

“It is also very good for the club and the team as well.

“He is a player who has developed a lot, he defends well and has improved a lot in aerial play and agility.

“He moves the ball really well and he can grow a lot more.”
