Marcelo Bielsa: Brentford is a different team

Head coach on Brentford.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media ahead of Wednesday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture with Brentford.

The Whites could move back to the top of the division, with a victory over the Bees at Elland Road.

Bielsa spoke about what he expects from Brentford and gave an update on team news.

“Brentford is a different team, they have a different future you cannot link with their previous team in the Championship,” said Bielsa.

“They sold some very good players and at the same time they bought very good players too and they need time to work together as a new squad.

“We are not sure that these three players can play the game, Liam Cooper, Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas, but we cannot say they will not play either.

“We have pulled some players out and other players came in, but we are starting the games with the same players that were playing last year.

“We have less injuries now than last year and now we have some players on the bench that when they are going to play, they have the skill to come and balance the game.”

Bielsa also spoke about the return of Pontus Jansson to Elland Road, following his summer move to the Bees.

Bielsa said: “He deserves to be received with the right reception.

“He was the best player in the team last season.

I cannot talk about the previous years because I was not working with him, but he had a high-level season last year.

“I appreciate what he gave to the team, the fans are going to be fair and will recognise what he did for the club.”
