A strong Leeds United ran out 5-1 winners against Tadcaster Albion at the i2i Stadium, as Ryan Edmondson netted a hat-trick.

The first chance of the game came in the ninth minute, Ezgjan Alioski and Mateusz Klich worked the ball superbly down the left flank, before the latter crossed and Ryan Edmondson struck just over.

A minute later Leeds took the lead, Jack Clarke got to the byline and his pull back was slotted home by Edmondson.

Helder Costa was next to go close for the Whites, following some good build up play, he struck just wide from the edge of the box.

Leeds doubled the lead in the 20th minute, Costa drove forwards and found Alioski, he passed to Edmondson in the middle and the striker unselfishly laid the ball off to Clarke, who curled superbly into the bottom corner.

Edmondson nearly added a third soon after, Robbie Gotts played the striker forwards and he struck just wide from the edge of the box.

Clarke then did really well down the left and found Alioski in the box, he teed up Edmondson, but his deflected strike was well saved.

Klich then played a lovely pass to send Alioski into the box and his low strike was well saved, as Leeds continued to increase the lead.

Half time: Tadcaster Albion 0-3 Leeds United

Tadcaster had their first opportunity on goal at the start of the second half, Donald Chimalilo did well to break forward before finding Jake Day in the Leeds box, but he slipped when shooting, helping A. Trialist to make the save.

The home side then pulled a goal back, when Davis’ back pass to the goalkeeper was short and Day intercepted, before slotting home.

At the other end, the Whites came close to a fourth from a Clarke corner, but Edmondson saw his header well saved.

In the 57th minute Clarke put a good cross in from the left, which was met by an Edmondson volley, but he was denied from point blank range.

Leeds netted a fourth seven minutes later, in similar circumstances to Tadcaster’s goal, Edmondson picked up a Josh Barrett back pass, before slotting home.

With 15 minutes remaining Edmondson netted his hat-trick to make it five, heading home a Clarke cross from the left wing.

A power cut late into the game saw the two sides finish the match with limited visibility on the pitch, with just enough light to continue, as Leeds came away with the win.
