Barry Douglas: A lot of positives to take

Defender on York City win.

Leeds United full-back Barry Douglas spoke to LUTV following Wednesday’s 5-0 victory over York City at Bootham Crescent.

Douglas, who missed the back end of last season with injury, made a return for the Whites in the first pre-season game ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The defender played 62 minutes, along with the rest of the outfield squad and was pleased to return to action.

“The first game is in the bag as they say, it was nice to get it over and done with and thankfully all the boys came through it unscathed,” said Douglas.

“It’s natural to be tired, especially with it being the first game of pre-season, but it was good to get back on the pitch and get through it unscathed, I’ll build on that and look forward to the next games.

“I think I did okay, I know what I’m good at, I like to link up and play with the ball, so it’s just about getting to play that way and getting the understanding.

“We work hard throughout pre-season, so it was nice to finally get out there and play a competitive game.

“We always want to win and have that winning mentality, but the result was irrelevant.

“It was all about fitness and working on the stuff we do on the training ground and trying to implement that into a game and I thought we did really well, there was a lot of positives to take.

“I know we played with each other last year but we’re always learning a lot about each other, it was nice to play again and I think it was a very professional performance.”
