Marcelo Bielsa: Our focus is on three points we are playing for in each game

Head coach on Wigan Athletic.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media ahead of Good Friday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Wigan Athletic.

The Whites are looking for back to back victories at Elland Road against the Latics and a third league win in a row.

The two sides have lots to play for with Leeds vying for promotion and Wigan looking to avoid relegation and Bielsa is expecting a tough game.

“How Wigan are playing at the moment represents a higher position than they are in,” said Bielsa.

“A lot of times teams at the top are playing teams at the bottom and you don’t see the difference in level between the two teams despite the positions.

“These situations repeat a lot of times in the Sky Bet Championship.

“Our objective has to be focused on the three points we are playing for in each game.”

“We can’t be focused on the games we are playing in the future or the results of the opposition.

Bielsa also gave an update on captain Liam Cooper who missed last Saturday’s victory over Sheffield Wednesday with injury.

He said: “We are probably going to play with the same team as the last game.

“It is going to be very difficult for Liam Cooper to be ready to play the game.

“It is difficult to make a precise conclusion of this situation at this stage, he is not ruled out, but is not 100 per cent going to be available.”
