Adam Forshaw: This is the biggest club I have played for

Midfielder pays tribute to support.

Joining the club from Middlesbrough back in January 2018, Leeds United midfielder made 25 appearances for the Whites this season, helping the club to second place in the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking exclusively to the official matchday programme for Saturday’s fixture with Sheffield Wednesday, Forshaw spoke about the influence of the supporters and what it is like to play for Leeds United.

You’ve been here just over 12 months now, how have you found the experience of being at the club?

“I’ve absolutely loved it. Me and my wife have a little baby and we love living here and everything about it. This is a proper football club. People say it all of the time, but the fans are unbelievable. The support is incredible and it is by far the biggest club I have played for and will play for. I want to be here for many more years and experience some really good highs with the club and see where it takes us.”

Did you realise the scale of the support before, compared to now that you have been here for a while?

“I’d actually been told by Jonathan Woodgate. He rang me when he knew I was coming. I was at Middlesbrough with him and he said, ‘You’re signing for an absolute whopper of a club’ and for him to say that, someone who has played for Real Madrid, is massive. I also played with Jonathan Douglas at Brentford and I always remember him talking to me years ago, a long time before I signed. He said, ‘If you ever get the chance to play for Leeds United then take it, because you won’t experience fans like it’ and genuinely they were both so true. I am loving it, relishing it and like I say, I want to be here for many years to come.”

When you play at Elland Road, what is it like having packed houses every week?

“Fantastic, I don’t think the supporters realise what it does to the players with the boost it gives you. I remember the Derby County game at home, there was a break in play and I looked around me. At times you are really focused on the game and you can’t notice everything, but I took a step back and saw the scarves waving and I was taken aback by it. I remember just thinking, ‘Wow!’ when I was stood on the pitch. It was unbelievable.”
