UNITED DOWN UNDER: SECOND FIXTURE ANNOUNCED

Whites to face Western Sydney Wanderers.

Leeds United are pleased to announce a second fixture as part of next summer’s pre-season tour of Australia.

On Saturday 20 July 2019, the Whites will face Western Sydney Wanderers at the brand new Western Sydney Stadium, which is set to open early next year.

The match will also be a historic event, as it will be Western Sydney Wanderers’ first ever fixture at their new 30,000-seat home.

Speaking about the fixture, Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa said: “I am pleased that we have been given the opportunity to take the team over to Australia to help us prepare for the 2019/20 season.

“To play in the first international sporting event at the new Western Sydney Stadium will be an honour and we are all looking forward to the occasion.”

Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear and Western Sydney Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas also spoke about the announcement.

“We’re really excited to be part of this fixture with Western Sydney Wanderers, which will be a very special occasion at their new home,” said Kinnear.

“The large number of Leeds fans based in Australia has only been reinforced since the announcement of the tour last week and we’re really pleased to be playing in Sydney, giving further opportunities for supporters to see the first team in action.

“This match is another fantastic part of our centenary season, we’re expecting a large number of supporters to make the trip to Sydney and we look forward to seeing fans there.”

Tsatsimas said: “Our fans have waited a long time for this stadium to come to fruition and we cannot wait to play our first match there against a club with so much history and tradition in Leeds United.”

“This will be a historic even for the club, the stadium and the people of Western Sydney and we look forward to working in partnership with VenuesLive to bring this match to life.”

New South Wales Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres also added: “This will be a historic day for Western Sydney football fans as their home team lines up against one of English football’s most storied clubs, marking the first international fixture at the new stadium.

“The Wanderers will be returning to their spiritual home in Parramatta and playing against the club well known to Australian’s through the likes of former Socceroos striker Mark Viduka, along with former A-League star Michael Bridges.”

Leeds United’s trip to Australia is supported by the State Government, through Tourism WA and VenuesWest and Optus Stadium operator, VenuesLive.

Ticket details and travel packages for this fixture will be announced in due course.  Please note, that supporters who purchase tickets for our first fixture in Perth will automatically be given access to buy tickets for our match in Sydney.
