UNITED DOWN UNDER: LEEDS ON TOUR

Whites to face Manchester United in July 2019.

Leeds United is pleased to announce the club will be heading to Western Australia as part of next summer’s pre-season schedule.

The entire first-team squad will travel to Perth in July 2019 where they will take on English rivals Manchester United in a friendly match at Optus Stadium. The match is set to take place on Wednesday 17 July, with kick-off details to be confirmed.

The team will also spend time training during the trip ahead of the 2019/20 season with further games to also be announced at a later date.

Angus Kinnear, CEO of Leeds United Football Club, has spoken about the trip and the incredible interest from Leeds United fans so far and said: “We are delighted to confirm the news about our exciting trip to Perth next summer with our fanbase. A lot of hard work behind-the-scenes has gone into making this possible and I’m sure it will be a great success.

“The trip, including the game against long-standing rivals Manchester United and some more fixtures still to be announced, will be a fantastic part of our centenary season and it is expected to attract thousands of visitors.

“From the feedback we’ve seen since the first reports of the project, we envisage around four to five thousand of those visitors being our passionate supporters from all over the world – we look forward to seeing you all there.”

Leeds United has a number of strong links to Australia with former player Mark Viduka hailing from Melbourne and Championship winning Tony Dorigo, who was born in Adelaide in Australia before representing England, along with a number of other players who have also come from Down Under to play for the Whites.

Leeds United’s trip to Australia is supported by the State Government, through Tourism WA and VenuesWest and Optus Stadium operator, VenuesLive.
