PATRICK BAMFORD: IT WAS HARD TO GET MY HEAD AROUND

Striker on comeback trail.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has spoken to LUTV about his injury progress.

Bamford, who joined the Whites from Middlesbrough over the summer, hasn’t featured for Leeds since the end of August, after suffering a knee injury.

The striker spoke about the range of emotions he has been through since finding out the prognosis and his road to recovery so far.

“I landed in a position that you would kneel, but with the force I hit the floor, it snapped the ligament,” said Bamford.

“Speaking to the physio after, it is a rare thing to happen in football, it is usually an injury you would get in a car crash.

“It was a freak incident, so it was hard to get my head around it to start with, but since then, things have moved along slowly but surely.

“The injury happened on the Friday and I went to see the specialist on the Monday, but the whole weekend I thought I’d need an operation and be out for six to nine months.

“When I saw the specialist he tested it and said I didn’t need an operation, I just needed a brace for four weeks.

“The physio then gave me different things to do in the gym, so I’ve been in everyday working to keep my leg strong.

“It started with light movements and when I took the brace off and it took me a bit of time to walk normally again, but from then onwards I’ve been able to progress it with cycling on the bike and with weights.

“Obviously it has been frustrating that I can’t play, but when I found out it would only be four months, rather than nine, it was a big weight off my shoulders and everything has been positive from there.

“You should have seen how happy I was to be back running around the field again and simple things like that are really good.

“I’ve found myself being a fan, I’ve been jumping up and down and in the stand, you’re still trying to kick every ball.”
