West Bromwich Albion netted four second half goals, to hand Leeds United a third league defeat of the season and knock the Whites off top spot in the Championship.

The home side started brightly and threatened inside seven minutes when Matt Phillips tried his luck from range, but he couldn’t find the target.

Hal Robson-Kanu was next to go close, he cut into the Leeds box well from the right flank, before curling an effort just over the crossbar.

In the 14th minute West Brom should have taken the lead, Tosin Adarabioyo had a glorious chance at a corner, but could only fire wide.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell was then called into action, he made a good stop to deny Jay Rodriguez from the edge of the box.

Adam Forshaw saw an effort blocked from the edge of the box, before West Brom nearly broke the deadlock, Harvey Barnes played a neat one-two with Robson-Kanu to break into the Leeds box, but he could only drive his attempt into the side netting.

Some lovely build up play from Leeds led to a decent chance for the Whites.  Ezgjan Alioski found Pablo Hernandez in the West Brom box, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

The home side again threatened in the 28th minute, Rodriguez was just inches away from breaking the deadlock, hitting the crossbar with a fine strike from 25 yards.

At the other end Forshaw forced Sam Johnstone into his first save with an effort from 30 yards.

Leeds came into the game more during the closing stages of the half, Barry Douglas sent Alioski down the left and he found Klich in the box, but he was denied by the Baggies goalkeeper.

At a Leeds corner, Kemar Roofe saw an effort on the turn blocked, as the two sides went into the break all square.

The home side took the lead six minutes into the second half.  After some good build up play, Klich had an opportunity to strike and Roofe went down in the West Brom box appealing for a penalty, but with no penalty awarded, the home side broke and Rodriguez played in Robson-Kanu, who found the bottom corner.

Leeds had a chance from a Hernandez free-kick, he found Liam Cooper in the West Brom box, but he couldn’t provide an effort on target.

Robson-Kanu then put in a good cross from the right for the home side, Barnes met it with a first time volley, but could only fire wide.

The Baggies doubled their lead in the 67th minute, Phillips robbed possession from Klich in the middle of the park, before smashing home from 25 yards.

Stuart Dallas fired just over for the Whites as he looked to get Leeds back into the game, whilst at the other end, Peacock-Farrell made a really good stop to deny a curling effort from Barnes.

Forshaw then found Leeds substitute Tyler Roberts with a through ball, but the Whites forward could only fire wide.

The Baggies went looking for a third from a free-kick, Craig Dawson got his head to Phillips’ delivery, but couldn’t find the target.

Hernandez then found Alioski in the box, but he could only strike a low effort into the side netting.

West Brom increased their lead eight minutes from time, Barnes went through on goal and made no mistake.

A minute later the home side added a fourth, Rodriguez saw a shot blocked and substitute Dwight Gayle slotted in the rebound.

Hernandez netted a consolation goal in stoppage time with a looping header, but it proved to be a miserable evening for the Whites.
