MARCELO BIELSA: FIVE KEY PRESS CONFERENCE POINTS

MARCELO BIELSA: FIVE KEY PRESS CONFERENCE POINTS

Five key quotes ahead of West Brom.

Following Marcelo Bielsa's press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to West Bromwich Albion, we look at five key points made by the head coach...

On the responsibility of providing an entertaining style of football...

“When a team doesn’t get what it deserves, sooner or later the fans punish the lack of results.  The lack of tolerance regarding the lack of results is stronger than the lack of tolerance when the style is not beautiful.  The fans are willing to wait for the beauty of the game when they have results.  I think that the commercialisation of football, when the clubs are owned by private people, the results are more important than anything.  The most attractive thing in football is the beauty of the game.  Those who invest in football should take precautions to keep the level of the business they bought.  When a team plays bad, you will have less fans willing to watch the game.  But you have head coaches like Pep Guardiola who unite both things- beauty and results.  He plays well and wins and increases the value of the club where he works and the players that he has.  It is the responsibility of all to discuss the importance of the result above the beauty of the game.  The fact we are not taking care of the planet means our children will pay the consequences of our acts and with football it will be the same.  We are destroying football and in the future we will see the negative effects of this.  Those who have power are responsible for it.”

On the January transfer window...

“It will be very hard to add new players.  But we will have four more players coming back- Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford, Gaetano Berardi  and Izzy Brown.  This is only my opinion though and the club could have a different opinion which I would take into account.”

On being allowed to use technology in the dugout during the game...

“I don’t use any technogy and neither do my coaches.  We rely on our memory, but after becoming 60 years-old you lose your memory, so it is harder and harder for me every day.”

On West Bromwich Albion...

“I think the best offensive players in the Championship play for West Bromwich.  They might not have the best players in each position, but if we take as a whole the 10, 15, 19 and 16 (Matt Phillips, Harvery Barnes, Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle) they are the best offensive players.”

On the Copa Libertadores between Boca Juniors and River Plate...

“It’s the dream game, everyone dreams of this kind of game.  You have the aspiration of winning this game, you have emotions that you want to live.”
