REPORT: WIGAN ATHLETIC 1-2 LEEDS UNITED

Goals from Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe secures the three points at the DW Stadium

Leeds United walked away from the DW Stadium with all three points, and moved back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship after today's 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

With top goal scorers Nick Powell and Will Grigg out of action for the clash, Wigan were relying on goals coming from other areas of the pitch, and it only took right-back Reece James six minutes to find the net for the home side.

The Latics were given a free-kick on the outside of the box after Liam Cooper was deemed to have fouled Joe Garner, before James, on-loan from Chelsea, stepped up and curled the ball into the bottom right corner.

Wigan's lead would only last 3 minutes, however, as Barry Douglas split the defence with a fantastic pass, allowing Mateusz Klich to beat the offside trap, before the Polish midfielder put it on a plate for Pablo Hernandez to slot home.

The goal was Hernandez's fourth of the season, and would set the tone for the rest of the first half, as Leeds continued to press forward.

After closing the first half with chances from Roofe, Jansson and Forshaw; Leeds needed less than a minute of the second half to take the lead, as Kemar Roofe capitalised on a defensive mix-up to walk the ball into an empty net.

With the rest of the half an exercise in box-to-box football, Marcelo Bielsa made his one and only substitution in the 90th minute, as Jamie Shackleton replaced Mateusz Klich. The young player would go closest to increasing the lead, as he jumped on more confusion in the Wigan area, only to watch his on target strike, deflect off a player at the last second.
