MARCELO: "THE WILL OF THE FANS IS TO SEE TEAMS PLAYING"

MARCELO: \

From frustrating styles of play to what he thinks about fans dressing up as him, read more from Marcelo's press conference

Are you finding that the opposition is learning more ways to frustrate your team?

Usually the teams we're playing against, they don't behave with the goal of imposing their style to the opponent. Football was created so we can have an opposition, a challenge, of creative challenge. That is why it's the most popular sport in the world.

Thanks to the aesthetic beauty of the game, football is the most popular sport in the world. The victory, the win, the triumph has become more important than the beauty of the game.

Until a certain point, the beauty of the game was the shortest path to reach victory. Now you have different paths, all are within the rules, and we can value them too. For example, teams reduce the time of play, they try to increase the time when we have aerial balls, some teams think it's more convenient not to have the ball than have the ball. The will of the fans is to see teams playing.

What are you expecting from Wigan on Sunday?

For me, the next opponent that I'm playing against is always a tough one, and I never underestimate them, and I always think the opponent is strong enough to represent an important challenge to our skills. We always have the hope to win, we just draw at home, and it makes it even more important to win the away game. We have to win the game.

What is Marcelo's thoughts on the fans and how they have all got behind him (i.e. kids hugging him at U23s games, and dressing up as his for Halloween)?

I am proud of this. What I can say is, people can make a caricature of my face, and it's something not everyone can do. I say to my Argentinian friend, that a caricature in England is praise of the personality of the person being characterised... but I know this is not true.

Every team that Leeds have played this season, has failed to win their next game. Are Leeds there to be shot at and is it going against Leeds' advantage?

There is only one possible conclusion, which is that we reduce the energy of our opponent. What we could ask for, is to play both of the games one after another.

What does Marcelo think of broadcasters moving all the games, and does it inconvenience the team?

I'm always on the side of the club and the fans, but I can't tell you that we're not able to adapt to the hour that the league decides.
