MARCELO BIELSA: WE STARTED WELL AND ENDED WELL

Head coach on Brentford draw.

Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Brentford.

The Whites came from behind to secure a point at Elland Road, with Pontus Jansson netting in the 88th minute.

Leeds now head into the international break on the back of a three match unbeaten run and Bielsa gave his verdict on the game.

“I think it was a fair result, we could have won the game and we could have lost the game,” said Bielsa.

“It wouldn’t be fair to say that we were close to winning the game because it is not the case.

“When you have the possibility to look at the video of an incident (for the penalty) and make your own opinion, my opinion becomes useless and not important.

“In football you can’t expect a referee will never make any mistakes.

“It is very hard to play against Brentford, not because of their defence, although they defended well, but it is about how they used the ball when they had it, because they always felt at ease with the ball.

“We started well and we ended well, the 30 minutes in the middle was hard for us to play.

“We didn’t dominate the game, we were not dominated either, the game had many unpredictable situations and all of the unpredictable situations were in favour of the opponent.

“Many free balls and 50/50 balls that could be for us or the opponent, seemed to be won by them.

“When you want to build the game, you need the ball, we had less ball than we wanted to attack.

“The necessity to impose our style made us take excessive risks at the beginning when we played out from the back.

“The option was to either play long balls or play from the back and we chose to play from the back.

“We made many mistakes though because we were trying to do things and because of that we had the feeling that the opponent was hurting us and the opponent didn’t make any mistakes that could hurt them.”

Bielsa also spoke about man of the match Pontus Jansson and Jack Clarke who was given a debut in the match.

“Pontus is playing his best football, but this is not because I am his head coach.

“I don’t think we should take my opinion seriously though, because I don’t know all of his football history, but we can say for sure that he is playing at a high level.

“I am particularly happy with Jack’s performance, the answers he gave us were very difficult and he had no problem in expressing his personality or skills.

“We give a lot of credit to what the Academy brings to the first team, so I would like to thank the Academy for all of the good players they are giving us.

“Jack is a young player at 17-years-old and he has very good skills.”
