LIAM COOPER: IT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Skipper on Birmingham City defeat.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper spoke to LUTV following Saturday’s home defeat to Birmingham City.

A first half brace from Che Adams proved to be enough to hand Leeds a first league defeat of the season.

The result ended an eight match unbeaten run and Cooper was disappointed with both the result and performance.

“The first half was not good enough,” said Cooper.

“Mistakes cost us for the first goal, I thought we were the better team in the second half, but we can’t afford to start how we did.

“The first goal, Bailey Peacock-Farrell is a young lad and is going to make mistakes, I’ve spoken to him and told him to keep his head up, these things are going to happen and they are inevitable in football.

“For the second goal we got caught in possession, we knew Birmingham would counter attack us and it was very disappointing on our behalf.

“We’ve been good all season, at it all season and Saturday wasn’t good enough.

“We’ve set our standards high all season and we didn’t reach those, I don’t think any team in the league can afford not to be at it for 90 minutes and you get punished if you are not.

“We had chances to take something from the game, but I think if you only play for 45 minutes, you don’t deserve anything.

“It is the first time this season, we need to put that to bed and concentrate on the next game now.

“We’ll take it on the chin, we have a chance to go and put it right now next Friday night and what a way it would be to do it in a Yorkshire derby.”
