PATRICK BAMFORD: WE WANTED TO GET THROUGH

Striker on Bolton Wanderers win.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford spoke to LUTV following Tueday’s Carabao Cup victory over Bolton Wanderers.

Goals from Bamford and Samuel Saiz, helped the Whites record a 2-1 victory over the Trotters and progress to round two of the competition.

Bamford was pleased with the result, which was United’s third win on the spin.

“We wanted to get through and put a performance on,” said Bamford.

“There were players out there who haven’t played so far this season, so it was our chance to show what we can do.

“I think we showed that the squad is not just the 11 who have been starting in the league games, it has the depth and there were a few youngsters in the side who did really well too.

“We could have done with the third goal, but Bolton pulled a goal back at the start of the second half, which made it difficult in the second period.

“Really we needed to kill the game off in the first half and we had the chances to do that, but in the end though I think we were deserved winners.”

Bamford who joined the club from Middlesbrough also spoke about life at the club and scoring his first Whites goal.

He said: “I’ve settled in really well with the team, I’ve got to know the boys, they are a good group and easy to settle in with.

“Scoring my first goal is a weight off my shoulders, I knew after I missed the first chance that I was going to score and it had to come, so it is nice to get off the mark.”
