KALVIN PHILLIPS: IT FELT GOOD

Midfielder on Forest Green Rovers victory.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips spoke to LUTV following Tuesday’s pre-season match at Forest Green Rovers.

First half goals from Kemar Roofe and Luke Ayling helped the Whites record a 2-1 victory against the Sky Bet League Two side at the New Lawn.

The whole team who featured in the friendly played the full match and Phillips was pleased with how it went.

“It felt good getting 90 minutes on the pitch,” said Phillips.

“It has been such a long off season and everyone has been looking forward to getting back to playing games.

“I thought we did well, we still have a lot of things to work on, but it was good for our fitness.

“The way Marcelo Bielsa wants us to play is with two centre backs and one holding midfielder, with the two wing backs going forward.

“I thought the wing backs did well, obviously Luke Ayling scored a goal and I think we are more attacking, which I better.

“I can play anywhere in midfeld and I don’t mind playing wherever, I’m just happy to do a job there and hopefully I can do that thoughout the season."

Phillips also spoke about and thanked the 1,161 Leeds United fans who made the trip to the New Lawn to see the Whites in action.

“The supporters always come out in numbers, they were great again and we are looking forward to another season with them following us.”
