10 FACTS ABOUT LEWIS BAKER

We find out more about Leeds United's new midfielder...

1) Lewis Renard Baker was born on the 25th April 1995 in Luton. Four days later, 32,955 fans watched Leeds United's Carlton Palmer score the only goal in a 1-0 win over Aston Villa at Elland Road.

2) At the age of nine, after attending Luton's Centre of Excellence, Baker signed for Chelsea, progressing through the club's Academy and Reserve teams. During his second season with the Chelsea youth team, Baker was the joint-top goalscorer with five goals in 22 games.

3) 2012/13 was a season to remember for Baker, as the midfielder broke into a strong Chelsea Reserves side, featuring Andreas Christiansen, Nathan Ake and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The young Chelsea squad defeated Barcelona and Juventus in the knockout stages of the NextGen Series Tournament,  before Baker scored two goals against Arsenal to book a place in the Final against Aston Villa. With four goals from midfield, Baker was named the Best Player of the Tournament.

4) After an impressive start to the 2013/14 campaign, Baker made his first team debut for Chelsea on the 5th January 2014, in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Derby, replacing Oscar in the second half.

5) Baker ended the 2013/14 season being named Chelsea's Young Player of the Season, after his goal against Manchester United clinched the Barclays Under-21 Premier League title for the Blues at Old Trafford. His "wonder goal" against Arsenal's U21s during the same season, also saw Baker pick up the club's Goal of the Season.

6) The following season saw Baker sign a new five-year contract and spend the first half of the season as a member of Jose Mourinho's squad, before enjoying loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons. During his time with the latter, Baker helped The Dons secure automatic promotion to the Championship, chipping in with three goals.

7) After a productive campaign with MK Dons, Baker went out on loan to Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem for the 2015/16 season. Hitting the back of the net five times during his first season with the club, picking up his second Goal of the Season award for a strike against  De Graafschaap.

8) Representing England at U17, U19, U20, and U21 levels, Baker was a key member of Gareth Southgate's England U21s side, which lifted the Toulon Tournament trophy after a 2-1 victory over France in the Final. His four goals, including the opener in the Final, saw Baker also walk away with the tournament's Golden Boot award.

9) Such was Baker's importance to the Vitesse Arnhem side, the Dutch side retained him on loan for a second season, which would prove even more impressive. With 15 goals in 39 appearances, the midfielder helped Vitesse win their first ever piece of silverware,  after defeating AZ Alkmaar 2-0 in the 2017 KNVB Cup Final.

10) The 2017/18 campaign saw Baker return back to English football, as he joined Middlesbrough on loan. Scoring two goals in 14 appearances, Baker found himself in a midfield featuring Leeds United player Adam Forshaw.
