AYA Bank Tour 2018

Myanmar 0 Leeds United 2 (Edmondson 59, Grot 84)

Leeds United's final match of the AYA Bank Tour ended in victory against the Myanmar national team in Mandalay.

Leeds had an early chance when Kalvin Phillips did well to win the ball in midfield, before sending Luke Ayling to the byline on the overlap.  He crossed looking for Ryan Edmondson, but the striker couldn’t make enough contact with his header under pressure and Zyaw Zin Phyo made the save.

Caleb Ekuban was next to go close, he drove into the Myanmar box well, but his finish couldn’t beat Phyo.

Ekuban had another opportunity in the 20th minute, Phillips' cross from the right wing was met by the forward, but he could only guide his diving header off target.

Myanmar's first chance came four minutes later, Win Naing Soe went one-on-one with Bailey Peacock-Farrell, who made a good save.

A Tom Pearce corner led to another chance for Leeds, with Pascal Struijk and Paudie O'Connor seeing efforts blocked in a goal-mouth scramble, before the home side cleared.

Soon after, Edmondson was teed up by Phillips on the edge of the box, his powerful effort was saved by Phyo, before Ekuban struck the re-bound wide.

Half Time: Myanmar 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds started brightly in the second half, Phillips did well to get a shot away, which deflected into the path of Edmondson, but he could only blaze over from a narrow angle.

Edmondson then tried his luck from range, but his effort was too high and went over the crossbar.

Leeds took the lead in the 59th minute, Ekuban's shot could only be parried by Phyo and Edmondson slotted home the rebound.

Samuel Saiz almost had an immediate impact from the bench when he latched onto an Oriol Rey cross, but could only fire over a volley from a narrow angle.

Leeds then won a free-kick 25 yards from goal, left of centre, which Saiz struck, but his attempt was just off target.

Myanmar almost levelled in the 67th minute, but Leeds were saved by the post.

With seven minutes remaining, Leeds went further ahead, when Jay-Roy Grot unleashed a thunderbolt into the top right corner.

The Whites almost extended that margin on the counter attack, when Saiz forced the Myanmar goalkeeper into a decent stop from 25 yards.

Jamie Shackleton almost added a third in stoppage time, with a superb strike from the edge of the box, but his effort hit the crossbar and bounced over.
