JAMIE CLAPHAM: THE YOUNG LADS ARE DRIVING THE SENIOR PLAYERS ON

Assistant head coach on Barnsley win.

Leeds United assistant head coach Jamie Clapham spoke exclusively to LUTV following Saturday’s victory against Barnsley.

A goal in either half from Tom Pearce and Ezgjan Alioski helped Leeds secure all three points, with a 2-1 win over the Tykes.

Clapham spoke about coming up against his former club and was pleased to come out on top in the Yorkshire derby.

“It was an emotional day, even in the build up to it, you think about who you are going to see and there are really good staff at Barnsley who work their socks off.

“It was good to see them, but we knew we had to get the business right on the pitch and I think the game summed up our season so far.

“In the first 15-20 minutes we were really on the front foot, in their half, playing forward and creating chances.

“After we scored our goal, we were on the back foot, we didn’t apply any pressure and they started getting some momentum.

“It was a tough game, Barnsley had a good period in the game and Bailey Peacock-Farrell made a couple of great saves.

“We had a real go at them at half time, just to say to play forward and that there is nothing to be afraid of, going forward we have to take that mentality into every game.

“The young lads are driving the senior players on, we want a pathway for them and if they are good enough, they are going to be getting an opportunity, everyone so far has been terrific.

“When you put this shirt on and play for Leeds United, to win the league you have 46 cup finals because everybody ups their game.

“This is one of the biggest clubs in the country, make no mistake about it.

“We have great supporters who follow us everywhere, so that responsibility is huge and we need characters and players who can really perform under those pressures.”
